About Moscow Mills, MO - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Moscow Mills is situated on the western bank of the Cuvier River. The town’s original settlers began arriving in Lincoln County in the late 18th century. They were initially attracted by Spanish land grants. Since then, the town has retained its history and small town feel but has progressed and grown. Its proximity to St. Louis also makes it a great place to live for commuters with families. Or, those who work in the big city but just prefer peace and quiet at home. The seasonal weather enjoyed locally is just another great feature of Midwestern living.
In 1817, one of the initial prominent settlers moved his large household from Kentucky to Lincoln County. After acquiring a grist and saw mill on the Cuvier River near Clark’s Fort, this man, by the name of Shapley Ross, began construction of his two-story native limestone home. It is an exceptional model of fine masonry and Georgian-styled structural design and has been restored. It is now the home of the Lincoln County Genealogical Society. In the 1830’s, the Old River Mill was constructed and it operated until 1945. The location of the old mill is now Mill Site Park. Should you find yourself in the area, these are both very interesting sites to check out. Do keep in mind that if you plan to visit the park in the cooler months, to layer up.
The adjacent town of Troy is a great place for a day trip with the kids or to bring visitors from out of town. The little main street area boasts unique shops. The town also maintains picturesque parks, lovely walking trails, and more. Other local towns like Wentzville, Foristell, St. Charles and more all put on huge events throughout the year. You will find that there is plenty of warm weather fun to be had in the summer as well as plenty of winter recreation and festivities to keep you entertained all year.
